INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPLATION IN MODERN LIFE

A talk and a practical course by IGOR BERKHIN

Traditional contemplative practices are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Besides being a great way to know oneself better, they help to reduce stress and anxiety, develop better focus and mindfulness, learn regulating one’s own emotions etc. Many of contemplative exercises do not require escape from everyday life, moreover they are helping us in this life. A talk and an introductory practical course on meditation and contemplation are aimed for general public to feel the taste of contemplative practice outside specific religious or spiritual context. The course does not require any special preparation, comfortable cloths are recommended.

igorIgor Berkhin is a long-term practitioner of Buddhism and Dzogchen He’s been a translator for many Buddhist teachers, first of all for Chogyal Namkhai Norbu. For more than 12 years he has been teaching contemplative practices both within and outside of spiritual context. He taught a course on “Basics of meditation for psychologists and psychotherapists” at the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis. His on-line course “28 lessons of meditation” for the Russian edition of Yoga Journal attracted almost 7000 followers. His current work is related to applying contemplative methods and knowledge for discovering and counteracting cognitive biases and psychological manipulations.
