The Ka-Ter translation Project started in 2003 by the Austrian Shang Shung Institute, mainly in the person of Oliver Leick, with the approval and inspiration of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.
The main aim of the project is the translation of ancient Tibetan texts, in particular those related to the Dzogchen Teaching, into the English language. The aim is also the translation into English of especially selected works of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.
Another crucial aspect is to translate the original texts that Chögyal Namkhai Norbu often comments upon in his Teachings activities and to promote the knowledge of the Tibetan Language.
The main consultants and translators of the Ka-Ter translation project are Adriano Clemente, Elio Guarisco, Jim Valby, and Fabian Sanders. Collaborators also include the staff and editors of the Shang Shung Publications and Shang Shung Editions.
To support the future of these translation activities, and for the sake of people interested in learning the Tibetan language and translation from Tibetan, the Ka-ter project has also instituted yearly translator’s trainings. The first training took place in 2003 led by Elio Guarisco, and has continued till the present year mainly under the direction of Fabian Sanders. This year we will have the 12th training.

The above activities of translation have made available, in English, a vast amount of otherwise hidden Tibetan Literature that has been the backbone of the work of the Shang Shung Edition for years till the present.
These activities have provided the entire international Dzogchen Community with the possibility to study and apply the teachings of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and are therefore a very important activity within the Dzogchen Community. Many people in the world outside the Dzogchen Community have read and expressed appreciation for the public books translated in the frame of the Ka-Ter project.
All this has been possible through the constant, untiring, honest and dedicated work of fund-raising done by Oliver Leick and the Shang Shung Institute Austria for years, in service of the Master and the Dzogchen Community.
