Chöd is commonly practiced throughout Tibet. It is found in all schools of Buddhism as well as in the Dzogchen and Bönpo traditions. The origins of this practice can be traced principally to the Tibetan female master Machig Labdrön, who lived around 1000 CE.
The Chöd practice arose directly out of Machig Labdrön’s own experiences and knowledge as the essence of all the teachings she had received. Chöd means cutting through our ego. Machig Labdrön understood that cutting through our ego is essential and later gave the name of Chöd to the teachings that embody this principle.
Steven Landsberg began studying Tibetan Buddhism in 1967 while he was living in India. He also spent years studying Sanskrit and Tibetan and many years doing preliminary practices. In 1982, he attended his first retreat with Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and began practicing under his guidance. He has continued to pursue his study and practice of SMS since that time and in 2010 he was authorized by the Master as an SMS Base instructor.
Everybody is invited to come and practice together this precious teaching in our beautiful Gar:)
We are looking forward in Merigar East:)
